Official Rules
DUMB Weekly HOLD IT: events with a prize
These rules apply only to weekly events that the app and trydumb.net/tournament show with a prize. No prize event has been announced yet. Events without a prize follow the tournament rules only.
1. No purchase necessary; sponsor
NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
The DUMB Weekly HOLD IT tournament (the “Tournament”) is a game of skill. Each weekly event with a prize (an “Event”) is sponsored by Guide U Inc, the publisher of the DUMB app and trydumb.net (“Sponsor”). Sponsor’s mailing address: Guide U Inc, 732 S 6th St, Ste R, Las Vegas, NV 89101, USA.
The DUMB Pass subscription, the Custom name & photo unlock and every other purchase in the app give no entry, priority, extra entries or seeding advantage in an Event. The only difference in play is that DUMB Pass holders don’t see ads (section 5).
Apple Inc. and Google LLC are not sponsors of, and are not involved in, the Tournament in any way. Neither is responsible for any Event or prize. The same applies to the companies behind our service providers.
2. Who can win
Prizes are open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 or older (19 in Alabama and Nebraska, 21 in Mississippi) when they register.
- Anyone 18+ may play in an Event from anywhere the app is available, but players outside the eligible area cannot win a prize. If one finishes first, the prize goes to the highest-finishing eligible player in the final.
- Not eligible: employees, officers and contractors of Sponsor, their immediate families (spouse, parents, siblings, children) and members of their households.
- One account per person. A person who plays on more than one account in an Event is disqualified.
- Void wherever prohibited or restricted by law.
- Registering confirms you meet these rules. Sponsor may ask for proof of age, identity and residence at any time.
3. When Events happen
Events start Saturdays at 8:00 pm US Eastern Time. Each Event is announced in the app and at trydumb.net/tournament by the Monday before, at 12:00 pm ET, with its start time, capacity, prize and these rules. Once announced, the prize and rules for that Event don’t change except as allowed in section 9.
| Step | Time (ET) |
|---|---|
| Registration opens | When the Event is announced |
| Check-in opens | 30 min before start |
| Check-in and registration close | 5 min before start |
| First round starts | Start time |
| Event ends | When a champion is decided, typically within 45 min (100 players) to 65 min (1,000 players) |
An Event needs at least 10 checked-in players to run; below 10 it is cancelled. A prize is awarded only if at least 100 players are checked in when check-in closes. With 10 to 99 players, the Event is still played, for the champion badge and winner card only, and the app says so before the first round starts. The Event clock is Sponsor’s server clock.
4. How to enter (free)
- Download the free DUMB app and sign in with a free account (email address required, so we can contact a winner).
- Qualify for free by winning 5 games in the same week (Monday 12:00 am ET onward) against at least 5 different real players. Games against house bots or in Practice don’t count. The app shows your progress.
- Tap Register on the Event card, tell us which US state you live in (or that you live outside the US), confirm you are 18+ and accept these rules.
- Check in during the check-in window (tap I’m here; a quick connection test must pass).
- Entry is limited to the Event’s announced capacity, first come, first served. Later registrants are reserves in registration order and fill unclaimed places from 10 min before start.
- Limit one entry per person per Event.
- Entries made by bots, scripts, automation or anyone other than the account holder are void.
5. How play works and how the winner is decided
The winner is decided by skill alone: who keeps the button held the longest. There is no random draw.
- Rooms. Checked-in players are split into rooms of up to 10 by a published, verifiable seeding method that ignores purchases (see fair draws). The last player still holding in each room advances. Rounds repeat until one room of 2 to 10 plays the final; the last player holding in the final is the champion.
- The hold. After a 3-second countdown, players must press within 2 seconds of GO and keep holding. Letting go, a touch being cancelled, leaving or closing the app, or tapping anything else ends your hold. Every hold is timed from GO.
- Ads. Players without a DUMB Pass may see an ad in the top half of the screen during a match. Its space is reserved for the whole match, so the button never moves and the ad never covers it. Tapping an ad leaves the app and ends the hold, with no replay. DUMB Pass holders see no ads. Nothing else a player can buy changes play.
- Time limit. Rounds are capped at 15 minutes and the final at 20 minutes. At the cap, everyone still holding in a round advances; everyone still holding in the final is a co-champion.
- Ties. Releases within 50 milliseconds of each other are a tie. Tied players in a round all advance. Tied finalists play sudden-death finals after a 60-second break, up to two more; a third tie makes them co-champions.
- Co-champions share the prize equally: a cash or gift-card prize is split evenly; for any other prize, each co-champion receives an equal share of its approximate retail value as a gift card.
- Connections. Each player gets a 5-second reconnection grace period. Problems with a player’s own phone or network are not grounds for a replay. If Sponsor’s systems fail, the affected room is replayed; if that fails, the Event is paused and may be cancelled after 30 minutes.
- Review. Results are provisional until certified. Sponsor reviews flagged rooms within the 3-minute review window and may certify, replay or void a room. Sponsor’s certified results are final.
- No bots. House bots never play in Events.
6. Prizes
Each Event has one prize for the champion, announced with the Event in the app and at trydumb.net/tournament, with its approximate retail value. Every champion also gets the in-app champion badge and winner card, which have no cash value. No prize is awarded in an Event with fewer than 100 checked-in players (section 3).
- The total prize value per Event will not exceed $4,999.
- Prizes are awarded only to eligible winners (section 2). No cash alternative, transfer or substitution by the winner. Sponsor may substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the announced prize becomes unavailable.
- Taxes are the winner’s responsibility. A winner receiving prizes worth $600 or more from Sponsor in a calendar year must provide a completed IRS Form W-9 before delivery and will receive an IRS Form 1099.
- Gift-card prizes are subject to the issuer’s terms. Prizes are delivered within 30 days of verification, to a US address or by a US payment method only.
- Limit: one prize per person per Event.
7. Winner notification and verification
The champion is a potential winner until verified. Sponsor notifies them in the app and by email to their account address within 48 hours of the Event.
- The potential winner must reply within 7 days with their legal name, date of birth, state of residence, and a delivery address or payment details.
- For prizes worth $600 or more, they must also sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and liability release (and, where lawful, a publicity release) within 7 days of receiving it, plus a Form W-9.
- Sponsor reviews the Event’s game data for fair play (section 8).
The prize is forfeited, and may be awarded to the highest-finishing eligible and verified player in the final, if the potential winner is ineligible, can’t be reached, doesn’t respond in time, doesn’t return the documents, or breaks these rules. A returned prize is forfeited. Deleting your DUMB account before the prize is delivered forfeits it.
8. Fair play
Sponsor may disqualify any player, void their results and withhold any prize if it finds, in its reasonable judgment, that the player:
- used any device, tool, weight, clip, auto-clicker, accessibility setting or method to hold the button other than their own finger;
- used a modified app, emulator, script or automation, or interfered with the app, servers or network traffic;
- shared an account, played on more than one account, or let someone else play for them;
- colluded with other players, including agreeing to let go, or tried to manipulate seeding or results;
- harassed others, used an offensive name or photo, or otherwise broke the DUMB terms.
Sponsor may record and review gameplay and device data from Events to check fair play. Decisions on fair play are final. Trying to damage the Tournament or undermine its fair operation may break the law, and Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages.
9. General conditions
- Changes and cancellation. If an Event can’t run as planned because of a technical failure, fraud, outage or anything beyond Sponsor’s control, Sponsor may pause, replay, end or cancel it. A cancelled Event awards no prize. Changes to an announced Event are posted in the app and are not made to the detriment of entrants except where required by law.
- Publicity. Except where prohibited, the champion’s display name, avatar or photo, and results may be shown in the app and on trydumb.net. Any other use of a winner’s name or likeness needs their separate consent.
- Privacy. Information collected for an Event is used under the DUMB Privacy Policy and to run the Event, verify winners, deliver prizes and meet tax obligations.
- Release and limitation of liability. By entering, players release Sponsor, Apple Inc., Google LLC and their affiliates from claims arising from participation or any prize, to the extent permitted by law. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late or failed connections, devices, networks or entries.
- Disputes. These rules are governed by the laws of the State of Nevada, USA. Remedies are limited to actual out-of-pocket costs of entering, to the extent permitted by law.
- Conflicts. If these rules conflict with any in-app or marketing material, these rules govern.
10. Winners list and contact
Champions are listed in the app and at trydumb.net/tournament. For a written winners list, email support@trydumb.net with the subject “Winners list” within 60 days of the Event, or write to Sponsor at the address in section 1.
